Malone Lodge in Sutton's annual Toy Drive.
Here are some photos from Malone lodge in sutton as we make a presentation of SOME of the toys they collected to the local food bank.
Two senior organizers of the food bank came into lodge and made speeches of appreciation for the annual Malone Lodge toy drive.
Malone Lodge and Zeradatha Lodge both have large and successful toy drives.
Congratualtions to both for their hard work, on behalf of York District!!

True Blue LodgeTrue shows its true colours for Remeberance Day

On Sunday November 6, 2011, in Bolton, the brethren of True Blue Lodge No. 98 showed, again, how important a part of the community they are!!
The weather was great and the crowd was full.
It started months earlier.
The Remembrance Day parade for the town needed proper planning and coordination and True Blue's secretary, W.Bro. Nicholas Brooksbank, stepped up to the plate and worked hard to bring together all of the individuals and groups that would be necessary to make a great event.
He also made sure to request dispensation for the Lodge to wear regalia, march in the parade and lay a wreath at the cenotaph.
On the day of the event the brethren of True Blue gathered, in collars and aprons, at the start of the parade. They had an eight foot banner suspended on a pole. The banner announced to all that True Blue Lodge was over 150 years old and had always been part of Bolton. The square and compass was also very large and visible!!
Two great young men, who were sons of members, carried the banner for the entire parade! They did a fantastic job!!
When the parade began, the Master of the Lodge (W.Bro. Ken Dick) joined in, at the appointed spot, and was followed by the banner and more than a dozen of the brethren. I joined in with the PDDGM (R.W.Bro. Bill Boyle) and the District Secretary (W.Bro. George Pohle). We marched out of the parking lot, down the side street and out onto hwy 50!!! Our aprons and collars gleamed brightly and our regalia seemed pleased to be outside enjoying the day with the rest of us. The parade turned north and we walked uphill to the beautiful spot that holds the magnificent and honourable cenotaph.
The grass that surrounded the main monument was perfectly manicured and still a bright green on this sunny day.
I am sure the crowd exceeded 500 men, women and children and we all stood solemnly as the program of remembrance began.
We sang O Canada and listened to the speakers as the ceremony of remembrance paid the proper respect to our fallen soldiers. Soon the familiar words of "In Flanders Field" floated across the crowd and left no one untouched. The wreath laying took place near the end of the ceremony. I was asked to accompany the WM to the cenotaph and we carried the True Blue Lodge wreath solemnly and laid it with the others that had already been placed. After the final prayers and the pipes played and the bugle sounded we sang the Royal Anthem and then began the return march back to the center of Bolton.
It was a very special day and it was great to see all of the people looking at us as we marched to and from the cenotaph. I was very happy when a fire fighter came up to me after the event and asked me questions about Masonry. It turns out that he has a Masonic apron in his possession that belonged to his father in law!!
I think that man was inspired and will be joining a lodge soon!!
I wonder how many other people were watching us that day and were inspired by the effort that True Blue Lodge showed that fine November Remembrance Day.
Congratulations to True Blue Lodge. Thank you for all you do and Thank you for including me in your event.

This picture shows some of the brethren present with a 50 year mason, Bro. Eric Pay.
He was given a special certificate on this night.
They do so much amazing work at this lodge -- wow -- 2000 toys for kids collected and distributed this Christmas. Very impressive.
This lodge also gave our Grand lodge the Grand Registrar this year, R. W. Bro. Eugene DeBeaupre.
Most Worshipful Brother Ronald E. Groshaw was on hand to witness the evening.

Great night for Malone Lodge #512

Wednesday October 5th 2011 was the regular meeting of Malone lodge (#512), Sutton, but it was unlike any "regular" meeting. It was held out doors in Sibbald Point Provincial Park, 100 feet from the shore of beautiful and historic Lake Simcoe. The weather was perfect, still warm in the late afternoon --- not a cloud in the sky --- and many bright stars and almost a half moon to gaze up at and provide light. The two pavilions were well lit with torches, Coleman lights and candles. The air was still and quiet ---- not even a hint of a breeze. The dinner hour was a BBQ and all ate well. The aroma of BBQ hamburgers was wonderful, as we ate surrounded by grass, water & friends. As dinner ended, and night began to bring the darkness, we began to prepare for Lodge.
I was asked, as DDGM for York District, to lead the colour party into the large open air pavilion to "set the colours" and "assemble" the alter, before lodge was opened. The 2 pipers and 2 drummers escorted us (myself and the D of C who is also the District Piper - but had the night off) amongst the gathered brethren, to the patriotic music of "The Maple Leaf Forever". When the pipes and drums subsided I ordered "Present Colours", and the Canadian and Ontario flags were placed in the East. Next I ordered "Present Drum" and the lead drummers Huge Bass Drum was laid on its side and a piece of plywood used as a "top" - then the Alter pad and cloth were added and finally the V of the S. L..
I was then escorted out by the pipers while lodge was opened. They then prepared to welcome me back under the wands. When that time came the pipes stirred with "Scotland the Brave" and I was honoured by the reception into lodge.
The brethren of Malone had thought of everything!!! The rough ashlar was a local rock --- the perfect Ashlar was a large paving stone. The WM tracing board, warrant, and JW tracing board had been brought from the lodge. The lesser lights were candles, the working tools were miniature ones from 1932!! The EAST was actually East!! The wand holders were pieces of Pine trunk with holes drilled in them!!!! Even a long heavy coat was waiting for the candidate in the north east angle!!! And that was very welcome because the evening had begun to cool down as the degree progressed.
Assistant Tylers stood guard all around the perimeter of the lodge, and patrolled under the stars, and were either Masters of other lodges or representatives of other lodges. No cowans came anywhere near our proceedings!! The "Widow's Sons" motorcycle club had provided escort to our site and a motorcycle welcome at the main gates of the park itself. Almost 80 Masons attended the evening and I am very pleased to report that almost all of the York District Lodges attended the special night.!!
The candidate was a very good one and clearly this night will form a lasting memory for him, as it does for all of us. The officers of the lodge preformed the work of the evening with practiced ease. The WM was calm and prepared. I could not help but be impressed to hear nature lend a hand to the degree ---- a pack of coyotes began a plaintive howl in the distance as the candidate took his obligation.
During my comments, at the end of the evening, I hope that I provided sufficient accolades to the WM of Malone Lodge, W Bro. Ryan Cooke, and his officers -- who provided such a memorable evening. High praise and accolades are well deserved. With such a great evening all assembled felt the warmth of Masonic Brotherhood -- even as the temperature dropped so much. It must be stated clearly that W. Bro. Cooke came up with this idea himself and convinced his officers and Past Masters to support it. It also must be stated that W. Bro. Cooke is lucky to have such a great team of supportive Past Masters behind him who embraced his dream and provided their skills to bring the evening to fruition. The officers and members of Malone completed the circle and lent there hands to the labour of the evening. All of Malone Lodge pulled together to make this night happen.
We all thank Malone for this wonderful event that marks the final year of their first 100 years. Next year Malone will be celebrating their 100th and they are certainly giving notice of the scope and scale of events they can arrange and accomplish.
Well Done Malone Lodge.
